What Is Low Vision?
"Low vision" is impaired vision that cannot be fully restored
by surgery, medical treatment, conventional eye glasses or
contact lenses.
Low vision is NOT blindness
What Causes Low Vision?
The causes of low vision vary from person to person. Some
of the more common conditions are:
Macular Degeneration
Glaucoma
Diabetic Retinopathy
Cataracts
Optic Atrophy
Retinitis Pigmentosa
Congenital Eye Problems
When Do I Need A Low Vision Examination?
When your loss of vision is causing difficulty in your daily
life. For some, it may be difficulty reading a newspaper,
for others, it may be as serious as seeing the print on
medicine bottles.
How Can A Low Vision Examination Help?
Our goal is to help you make the most of your remaining
eyesight so you can do more of the things you need and want
to do, whether it's reading a book, writing a letter, shopping
or watching television.
How Is A Low Vision Exam Different?
Special testing is performed to more accurately determine
the full potential of your usable vision and the techniques
and devices that will be most helpful in meeting your personal
goals.
What Type of Devices Can I Expect to
Use?
There are many different devices available to persons with
low vision including magnifiers, telescopes, microscopes,
custom lighting, even special television systems. Many people
use a combination of these devices.
Payment, Insurance and Fees
Medicare and other insurances will usually pay for the exam
portion if the deductible has been met. There will be some
non-covered procedures that neither the primary or secondary
insurance will cover.
