What are Intacs?
Intacs are the first FDA-approved option to eyeglasses
and contact lenses that may correct vision without a
permanent choice. Intacs corneal ring segments offer
the potential for vision correction without permanently
altering the eye's central optical zone. Intacs do not
require removing tissue like other surgical procedures.
Intacs reshape the cornea mechanically with two polymer
crescents that are placed to flatten the cornea so light
rays are correctly focused on the retina. These segments
can be removed allowing vision to return to its preoperative
state in most cases. |

FDA Clinical Data
Intacs corneal ring segments received FDA approval on April
9, 1999. This was the culmination of a nearly $100 million
investment over 13 years. More than 1,700 Intacs myopia treatments
have been performed as part of the clinical studies in the
US and abroad. The FDA study established 74% of patients achieved
at least 20/20 vision and 97% achieved at least 20/40 without
contacts or glasses.
Are Intacs Right for You?
If you would like to minimize or eliminate your dependence
on contacts or glasses and your vision correction is between
-1.00 and -3.00 with minimal astigmatism you may be a candidate
for Intacs. To learn more about the Intacs corneal ring segment
