How much is a
> basic eye exam?
An eye exam is $82.00.
Does exam check for glaucoma and other
diseases?
Yes. A thorough eye exam will be able to tell if
you have glaucoma, cataracts, diabetic eye disease, thyroid
eye disease, and ocular manifestations of systemic illness.
What does the basic exam include?
A complete eye exam at SSVC will include the following:
- Measurement of how well you see (visual acuity) with
and without your current correction.
- A test of eye muscle function to tell if the eyes
are aligning properly.
- A careful determination of exactly what lens or lenses
make you see the best.
- Dilation of your eyes with eyedrops.
- A thorough assessment of the health of your eyes using
instruments called a slit lamp biomicroscope, and an
indirect ophthalmoscope.
How much for exam and contacts?
Contact Lens Exams begin at $82.00
for new patients and include measurements of the cornea
for a comfortable and healthy fit. It includes testing the
tear film to ensure there is sufficient moisture, checking
for lid disease and checking lid position and its interaction
with the lens. Our doctors will evaluate the fit of diagnostic
lenses on the eye to see which lens fits best. A contact
lens evaluation includes an additional 35 steps after our
complete eye exam

at the corner of Broadway and Radio Road (Lee Street to

Joe's Last Stand and on the opposite end of Mockingbird

Will they dilate my eyes?
Yes. The only way to thoroughly
examine the eye is to enlarge the pupils temporarily by
using eye drops. The eye drops we routinely use are very
mild, and only keep the eye dilated a few hours. We now
have eye drops that will reverse the effect of the dilating
drops. We encourage our patients to bring someone with them
to drive them home in case they feel uncomfortable. We provide
disposable sunglasses to help with the brightness.

How long will I be in seeing the doctor
and will I have to wait?
A regular examination takes approximately
thirty minutes. Emergency patients are taken
in to see the doctor first, then regularly scheduled appointments,
followed by walk-ins. We do not overbook our schedule and
strive to limit your time in our reception area to no more
than ten minutes. If you are unable to keep your appointment,
please notify us as soon as possible. If you have missed
more than two appointments, we will work you in when possible
in lieu
What days are Dr. Russell, Dr. Jones,
and Dr. Dolan here?
Our consulting ophthalmologists are
usually here weekly, but the days change each month.
Ophthalmology is a specialty care field. These doctors
have associated with our practice because they can rely
on our Doctors of Optometry to give you a quality eye exam
which they require within 30 days of seeing them. If Dr.
Allison or Dr. Bryant determine you need cataract surgery
or should be referred for other reasons, our staff will
set up an appointment with your choice of surgeons or specialists.
We will continue to monitor your eye health and will be
consulted and informed on any diagnosis.
What is a bundle?
It is an unconditional warranty for
one full year including scratching and breaking on
your frames and lenses. Loss is the only circumstance not
covered. So if the dog chews it up, the tractor shreds it,
or the car runs over it - bring back the pieces - it's covered!
Are my glasses ready? About how long
does it take to get glasses back?
We will call you as soon as your glasses are completed.
Single vision lenses can normally be
processed in one day; bifocals, trifocals, and progressives
take a little longer - 3 to 5 days, and special order lenses
can take longer.
Are my contacts in? How long does
it take to get contacts?
We will call you as soon as your contacts arrive in our
office. Some of our Contact Lens companies will ship directly
to you for an extra mailing fee of $6.00. From the time
we order your contacts to the time we receive them will
vary depending on the type and brand - but the
rule of thumb is three days to one week. Toric and bifocal
lenses generally take longer.
What insurances do you accept?
Our office accepts assignment on Medicare,
Medicaid *, BlueCross/BlueShield, Superior Vision Plan,
Private Healthcare Systems, and HealthSmart. Supplemental
insurance that Medicare automatically submits are also accepted.
Many patients have a supplemental insurance to pick up the
20% remaining cost. As a courtesy, we are happy to file
this for our patients; however, any difference in the insurance
company payment and the amount billed is the patient's responsibility
- and is subject to finance charges of 10% if the balance
goes unpaid for more than 30 days after we have heard from
your insurance company.
