    An eye exam is $82.00.

  • Does exam check for glaucoma and other diseases?
    Yes. A thorough eye exam will be able to tell if you have glaucoma, cataracts, diabetic eye disease, thyroid eye disease, and ocular manifestations of systemic illness.

  • What does the basic exam include?
    A complete eye exam at SSVC will include the following:
    1. Measurement of how well you see (visual acuity) with and without your current correction.
    2. A test of eye muscle function to tell if the eyes are aligning properly.
    3. A careful determination of exactly what lens or lenses make you see the best.
    4. Dilation of your eyes with eyedrops.
    5. A thorough assessment of the health of your eyes using instruments called a slit lamp biomicroscope, and an indirect ophthalmoscope.
  • How much for exam and contacts?
    Contact Lens Exams begin at $82.00 for new patients and include measurements of the cornea for a comfortable and healthy fit. It includes testing the tear film to ensure there is sufficient moisture, checking for lid disease and checking lid position and its interaction with the lens. Our doctors will evaluate the fit of diagnostic lenses on the eye to see which lens fits best. A contact lens evaluation includes an additional 35 steps after our complete eye exam

    Our office is located at 1100 Mockingbird Lane, Sulphur Springs, Texas 75482. Take exit 124 off Interstate 30 and proceed northeast toward downtown past one stop light. Before you get to the second stop light at the corner of Broadway and Radio Road (Lee Street to the left) you will see our building at the intersection of Mockingbird and Broadway. We are located next door to Joe's Last Stand and on the opposite end of Mockingbird from TaMolly's Mexican Restaurant, inside the loop.

  • Will they dilate my eyes?
    Yes. The only way to thoroughly examine the eye is to enlarge the pupils temporarily by using eye drops. The eye drops we routinely use are very mild, and only keep the eye dilated a few hours. We now have eye drops that will reverse the effect of the dilating drops. We encourage our patients to bring someone with them to drive them home in case they feel uncomfortable. We provide disposable sunglasses to help with the brightness.

  • How long will I be in seeing the doctor and will I have to wait?
    A regular examination takes approximately thirty minutes. Emergency patients are taken in to see the doctor first, then regularly scheduled appointments, followed by walk-ins. We do not overbook our schedule and strive to limit your time in our reception area to no more than ten minutes. If you are unable to keep your appointment, please notify us as soon as possible. If you have missed more than two appointments, we will work you in when possible in lieu

  • What days are Dr. Russell, Dr. Jones, and Dr. Dolan here?
    Our consulting ophthalmologists are usually here weekly, but the days change each month. Ophthalmology is a specialty care field. These doctors have associated with our practice because they can rely on our Doctors of Optometry to give you a quality eye exam which they require within 30 days of seeing them. If Dr. Allison or Dr. Bryant determine you need cataract surgery or should be referred for other reasons, our staff will set up an appointment with your choice of surgeons or specialists. We will continue to monitor your eye health and will be consulted and informed on any diagnosis.

  • What is a bundle?
    It is an unconditional warranty for one full year including scratching and breaking on your frames and lenses. Loss is the only circumstance not covered. So if the dog chews it up, the tractor shreds it, or the car runs over it - bring back the pieces - it's covered!

  • Are my glasses ready? About how long does it take to get glasses back?
    We will call you as soon as your glasses are completed. Single vision lenses can normally be processed in one day; bifocals, trifocals, and progressives take a little longer - 3 to 5 days, and special order lenses can take longer.

  • Are my contacts in? How long does it take to get contacts?
    We will call you as soon as your contacts arrive in our office. Some of our Contact Lens companies will ship directly to you for an extra mailing fee of $6.00. From the time we order your contacts to the time we receive them will vary depending on the type and brand - but the rule of thumb is three days to one week. Toric and bifocal lenses generally take longer.

  • What insurances do you accept?
    Our office accepts assignment on Medicare, Medicaid *, BlueCross/BlueShield, Superior Vision Plan, Private Healthcare Systems, and HealthSmart. Supplemental insurance that Medicare automatically submits are also accepted. Many patients have a supplemental insurance to pick up the 20% remaining cost. As a courtesy, we are happy to file this for our patients; however, any difference in the insurance company payment and the amount billed is the patient's responsibility - and is subject to finance charges of 10% if the balance goes unpaid for more than 30 days after we have heard from your insurance company.

    * WE DO NOT PROVIDE GLASSES FOR OTHER DOCTOR'S MEDICAID PATIENTS.

  • How much are frames?
    With our selection, you can choose from hundreds of styles and colors that reflect a clear sense of purpose, a sure sense of personal flair. For men and women, our eyewear styles are the quickest and most reasonable way to dress for success. Frames begin at $34.50. We have set aside a special set of quality frames that may be purchased at a reduced price for your second pair of eyeglasses or sunglasses when purchased with another pair. These SPARE PAIRS, including frame and lenses are $89.50 for Standard Single Vision, $119.50 for Standard Bifocal, $169.50 for Standard Trifocal, and $229.50 for Standard Progressive.

  • What kind of glasses do you carry?
    Our dispensary provides quality styling from the sane & sensible to the daringly different. Our experienced opticians are fully trained to help you decide where you fit in that range. They can advise on our vast lens selection as well the best color and frame shape for you. Some of our designer frame lines include Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Marchon, Oakley, Liz Claiborne, Nike, Valentino, Safilo, Charmant, Aristar, DKNY, and Kate Spade.
